Really good quote from @chescaleigh, concerning the issue of using “it’s satire” as an excuse for straight-up reproducing sexist/racist/homophobic/etc. thing that’s supposed to be satirized – when it’s “satire” in name only, there always will be people who’ll take it by face value and feel validated in their bigotry.
If your humor is indistinguishable from what you’re making fun of (as per Poe’s Law) – it’s probably time to revisit your approach to comedy.
Since I referenced the idea of dubiously communicated satire last week, when we featured Commentocracy video, let’s throw this old reblog back and remember to distinguish a strong line between making fun of awful attitudes and perpetuating them.
