I think I have a good backstory for him – Scott became the first male corps member when he discovered that Star Sapphires aren’t fueled by love, but EMPOWERMENT!
And the reason why there were no male Star Sapphires before is because women totally have inherently more empowerment and confidence in their heroically sexy bodies. Indeed, the willpower, rage or jealously that other Lantern corps draw upon is no match to the power of glamour!
The true key to reach for cosmic power is to realize how amazing you look with a giant chest-to-belly window on your torso, and no men before him knew that!
