ara-lunaria:

So, I decided to try out @bikiniarmorbattledamage‘s female armor bingo. Here we have Headhunter Nidalee from League of Legends, a purchasable customization for the champion Nidalee (who doesn’t have a single non-sexualized appearance option available). Above is the splash art, and below is her in-game model.

She’s supposed to be a badass shapeshifting assassin, and while her cougar form captures this, her human form most certainly does not.

Note the spine-breaking pose, the ridiculous top, and the loincloth.

(Cue “But it helps with her agility!”)

A perfectly timed reminder of why we’re so excited about the

Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess. Hopefully she reflects a shift in Riot’s art direction.

Started a second playthrough of Inquisition. Pretty early on I realize I have “special shipments” from the DLCs, and I figure hey, those are better than the armor I’ve got, I’ll wear them for a bit. Only…

SOLAS. WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?

… first of all, damn. Who knew he was that attractive under his apostate hobo garb?

Also:

OH MAN I HAVE TO PUT THAT ON EVERYONE.

THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER.

This was entirely, 100% necessary.

Clearly.

I hope @bikiniarmorbattledamage finds out about this

Okay, that outfit totally increases the replay value by 100%

Thank you for noting us about this, @bladetiger!

So a friend recently asked me what I thought about this outfit:

I said that I dont understand the panties or the thigh-highs, or why she has random skin windows, or why she seems to have better protection on her forearms than her vitals, but aesthetically it’s nice.

What do you think?

When it comes to “reasoning” behind the costume’s skimpyness and random holes, I suppose the trite “Tamaraneans are solar powered” excuse is still canon. And still bullshit, as long as Star’s fellow solar-powered alien Superman doesn’t dress like this. Or that. Or THAT.

As far as official Starfire outfits go, this is maybe the second (non-cartoon) one I recall that actually looks wearable, which is a big plus, considering the alternatives:

Guess my standards for this character’s look are just ridiculously lowered at this point, but I really do think that new outfit is an improvement and hope Starfire doesn’t revert to some sort of impossi-bikini anytime soon.

I wasn’t keeping up with E3 but the Valkyrie from the Gauntlet game actually has practical armor???

bikiniarmorbattledamage:

Well, I’m a little disappointed that they seem to have gone with three men and a token woman approach (not that I had high hopes for Gauntlet – one of the original “kill everything that moves or doesn’t move” games), but looking at the most revealing outfit they’re showcasing for her:

I can’t stay mad at her… look at her!

Since it’s that time again where the popular rhetoric is “Why be so negative? Why not celebrate the improvements!?” I feel it’s time to bring this back.

If Arrowhead Game Studios (founded by students) can do this with Gauntlet, a franchise this is literally thirty years old, and has a questionable history in terms of costume design for Valkyrie, then I think I’m entitled to expect more from major studios.

So, the message to major studios that want praise for “trying to improve” while improving by only the slightest increments (followed by backsteps) remains the same:
