Here’s BABD list of highlights regarding portrayal of warrior women of 2015.

And here are BABD’s own accomplishments in 2015:

Here’s hoping next year the good stuff will outweight the bad stuff!

We regularly get people rushing to tell us all about the existence the muscle curiass and about Picts fighting naked, with the assumption that we will embrace these cherries of history and support bikini armor for women.

But I say – why stop there? Why should we be happy with this level of empowerment mostly appearing only in art galleries and wonderful collections like these?  Think of all the designs this could inspire!

Why don’t we ask developers to look to classic works of art for inspiration.  Just remember the golden rule of marketing.

I mean, everyone loves art right?

There is complete lack of consistency regarding how Dejah’s outfit is laid out (does it have a headpiece, pauldrons, chain between pasties, big pasties or tiny ones?) really showcases the priorities here – on top of the complete lack of any sort of story to the cover (and these are all for the same issue of a John Carter comic).

It really showcases the priorities when she clearly either doesn’t have a design sheet or an editor that cares what she looks like beyond the desperate hope that sex will sell a title that (thanks to a movie that bombed) doesn’t really carry as much credibility as it could.

I never got around to bingo-ing the Amazon from Dragon’s Crown, seeing as:

a) her anatomy and posing are a MUCH more noticeable issue (hence she’s been featured on @eschergirlsfrequently)
b) her outfit is a very plain (if gravity-defying) scalemail (?) bikini

But seeing as we brought some new attention to that character with a post on a figure that makes all the problems with her design tangible and 3-dimensional, I figured “why not?”. At the very least we’ll learn how much a generic, non-fancy bikini armor scores on average.

I checked “Looks nothing like male version of the same outfit”, because while there are obviously no male Amazons, her male playable equivalent, the Fighter, wears a full suit of armor, including a helmet that obscures his bishounen face. If they were equals, he’d look closer to this

Guess that’s my second Dragon’s Crown Bingo this month, oh well. Both those designs are terrible in different areas.

So a friend recently asked me what I thought about this outfit:

I said that I dont understand the panties or the thigh-highs, or why she has random skin windows, or why she seems to have better protection on her forearms than her vitals, but aesthetically it’s nice.

What do you think?

When it comes to “reasoning” behind the costume’s skimpyness and random holes, I suppose the trite “Tamaraneans are solar powered” excuse is still canon. And still bullshit, as long as Star’s fellow solar-powered alien Superman doesn’t dress like this. Or that. Or THAT.

As far as official Starfire outfits go, this is maybe the second (non-cartoon) one I recall that actually looks wearable, which is a big plus, considering the alternatives:

Guess my standards for this character’s look are just ridiculously lowered at this point, but I really do think that new outfit is an improvement and hope Starfire doesn’t revert to some sort of impossi-bikini anytime soon.
