Oh pirate ladies, why be genuinely intimidating or interesting like pirate men, when you can show boobs?

Funny thing how they literally copied characters from Pirates of the Carribean, not caring about either Disney or the actors suing for infringement… but for “sex sells” reasons they had to add in some generic deep-cleavaged lady who looks absolutely nothing like Keira Knightley.
Dunno if it’s more insulting to the actress, cause someone didn’t think her face was worth using like mugs of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush, or respectful, cause in that case those boobs would be painted on her.

We’ve had a few people drop us mentions of this video from Sword of Chaos, but were never able to find it – turns out it’s unlisted but now thanks to @clreemurr we have the video and can compare it directly to the original to confirm that the outfits are so ridiculous they look more believable as porn.

You can see the “spicy” version is shorter because they edited out all the shots where it’d be blatantly obvious they’re pixelating boob armor instead of boobs.

Now I wanted to make a joke claiming that they stole this idea from from me, but given that we know they already that they stole fan art of other companies’ characters for their promotions, I’m not entirely sure it’d be a joke.

I mean is there any way this (apparently well funded) production can get any more ridiculous…

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Oh look, another game that decided to advertise itself with web banners portraying generically pretty pale ladies with overemphasized cleavages next to guys covered in ridiculously bulky and ornate fully-covering armor! How ORIGINAL!

20 points to Hogwarts house of whoever manages to explain how on earth do the blue dress lady’s boobs don’t spill out.

PS: Also, what’s wrong with purple dress one’s hand?

The natural evolution of MMORPG marketing… though part of me is still confused whether or not the weird wish guy’s is supposed to be one of their “hot players” or not… I mean he is the one bringing the centuar tree lady flowers right?

Years ago, unbeknownst to the public, the U.S. government began to capture more and more various creatures, building a walled city and setting up an experimental testing facility on an abandoned island in the Pacific Ocean.

Within a few years the island was filled with hundreds of different creatures, and government scientists worked to understand them.

But in 2012 disaster struck and the island was evacuated. Now the inmates have taken over and gangs of different species fight for control within the city walls.

But something was left behind on Monster Island, something the government desperately needs. And the only way to recover it is to send an elite unit into the most dangerous place in the world: Monster Island.

How convenient that one of the iconic “monsters” happened to be an extra from “Generic Fantasy MMORPG” – to the extent where the only other monsters showcased on covers are a horned cyclops and an extra from 60s Planet of the Apes movie. (Zenescope’s collective creativity continues to shine)

I can’t help but feel that if I was going to pitch a project based on the idea of an island of monsters… that you might want to focus on a variety of horrifying monsters rather than horrifying and cliche outfits.

And oh, the “sexy Boba Fett” outfit in the middle, that’s a “cosplay” variant cover… that’s how committed to not showcasing their core idea on the cover that they are. They’d rather use other people’s ideas and use it as an excuse to put sexy women on the cover.

World of Warcraft (the Movie)

I don’t know if you’d seen these already but my eyes just rolled into the back of my head. Thanks for the crotch shot.

And of course the male equivalent is the opposite of sexualised.

Those posters sum up PERFECTLY the problem with gendered double standard in depicting fictional characters and how it traverses through various media, as an MMO gets adapted into a movie.

Everything about those characters that should be equal, isn’t: makeup, costume, posing.

@nicholaskole took notice way back of how male orcs are big and unequivocally monstrous, while female ones are just conventionally pretty ladies painted green with small fangs (and that Garona’s mixed ancestry is not given justice either). Basically this:

Also reminds me strongly of @krudman’s take on sexual dimorphism in character design.

We assure you, WoW the Movie, designing big badass orc women (and/or sexualized orc men) isn’t that hard! We have a couple examples in our orc tag.

edit: A number of people have rushed to remind us that in according to the character’s particular lore, she’s a half orc.  While correct, this doesn’t address any of the key problems such as her pose and attire, that audiences unfamiliar with the lore won’t know that or that the character is essentially promoted as a sexy orc-like lady in juxtaposition to a powerful, well protected and dangerous orc man.
