While her kit certainly isn’t as bad as say, Cindy’s, it’s safe to say that Aranea Highwind’s battle gear has a lot of room for improvement – mostly due to some questionable priorities.  The most baffling of which being headgear that would stab her in the throat and/or chest if she looked down in a panic.

And while it’s certainly true that they boys on the road trip are wearing some very nice, very tight fitting black leather there’s two important points I’d like to bring up:

  1. They’re supposed to be dressed to go out on a nice road trip which will end in a wedding and it’s the whim of fate that puts them on perilious adventure.
  2. Their clothes are actually clothes, this is a weird fetish outfit.

Final Fantasy, as always, continues to be a very oddly mixed bag.

Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel is a game that the western distributors (Marvelous USA) have been trying to cross market to Skullgirls players but apparently don’t want to admit to having on their web site:

I stress that on their Facebook promotion, literally the only reason they can think of for you to buy this game is you’re going to get a discount if you already own Skullgirls.  That’s it – even though the game offers none of the quirk.

Unsurprisingly while it has positive reviews the majority of them barely clear two hours of gameplay and the multiplayer well…

For people making fighting games: excessive T&A didn’t save Soul Calibur: Lost Swords and it won’t save your game either.

So apparently HiRez has revealed their newest addition to SMITE, the Celtic goddess The Morrigan… who looks suspiciously like they borrowed fan art from another character who bears the name Morrigan.  The video does confirm that they at least read the Wikipedia page, but apparently had no concerns to come up with their own interpretation.

Of course, not all her skins revealed to date look like “empowered” fan art of Bioware’s Morrigan.   There’s also one that looks like sexy fan art of Leliana (dressing up as a Dalish elf):

Of course, both are complete with strange woad body art (complete with them treating it as interchangeable with henna) and wear even less than the characters from Dragon Age do, and have zero items of traditional Celtic attire such as

This… is so far the most shameless SMITE got with a female character design.

Unlike with Nike who looks like a lovechild of Zarya and Mercy, no-one in their right mind can argue this Morrigan is an original twist on the mythical figure. Or that any resemblance to a character from a different game is coincidental.

Tickled to see retro-fantasy RPG C&C inadvertently serving up a PSA on the sadly, entirely predictable consequences of adventuring in a scale bikini.

“If only they’d given her a sensible hauberk, all this could have been prevented! Why, gods? WHYYYYYY?”

(In fairness, the fact that her shield was just about to scale with her fist probably didn’t help matters.)

Having looked at Castles & Crusades catalog I am beginning to think that their art direction is very loose.  I’m not sure what the brief for this one was, “Adventurers take over Scrooge McDuck’s money bin but suffer tragedy.”

Still… it’s less confusing than this one:

Though as a side note, shields that small are usually referred to as bucklers and do have lots of practical uses – but was generally used in circumstances where you couldn’t be armored or carrying a full sized shield without video game inventory system.

So, perfect for when you’re at a party or out shopping – not so appropriate for when you’re planning to go on an adventure…

…maybe the real story here is that he found she was attacked during a party inside Scrooge McDuck’s money bin and now he just doesn’t care about anyone else who was killed.

I saw an ad on Tumblr for another battle MMO…and I was actually pleasantly surprised with most of the costume choices. While there are some ladies in impractical armor, there are also men who are clearly designed to appeal to a female audience.

I’m really not sure how long it’s going to take for the humanity to get over this idea that “MEN = MUSCLES! WOMEN=BEWBZ!” but it really can’t happen soon enough.

But, pro-tip:

I was bored so I decided to play some Female Armor Bingo with Flip Flappers! For the last three here’s the one and only example of what the male version of the same outfit looks like.

So… everything I could find say this is a show is a sort of Magical Girl type deal and generally seems to be aimed at teenage girls and young women.

Except for various random traits like these costumes and moments like

I’m not convinced this is a great way to market to multiple demographics.
