Sexy is not bad. Stripping is not bad. Wearing sexy boots is not bad. You know what is bad? Pandering is. Being a lazy designer at the cost of catching a wider audience is.
A bounty hunter who runs over rugged terrain does not need stripper boots, she needs something with treads and function that can *gasp* still be sexy. I can picture a hybrid boot design that is feminine but rugged, functional but badass.
You know what conveys things like “boosters” and “power” and “high jump”? Springs, coils, energy cells, treads, jets… you don’t have to be literal but you also might want to show, not tell, what a prop does.

High-Jump Stripper Boots! by stephlaberis

Very important quote from this article regarding Samus’s high heels, but it applies to character and costume design in general.

According to the responses so far, it seems that Fran’s outfit can hit a QUADRUPLE BINGO!

Depending on one’s opinion about what counts for those previously unchecked squares in yesterday’s “Easter-themed” bingo post, Fran WINS THE BINGO up to four times!
A few followers pointed out three potentially eligible squares more to cross.

Just look (bolded the proposed additional squares for convenience):

YOU CAN GET BARED BACK SHE HAS SHOULDER BLADES OUT FOR SOME REASON????!?!

quantumsiren asked:

Hey on the Fran bingo card, you can also mark that her nipples poke through. I’ve seen close ups of her chest, and you can see that it’s molded to her nipples. I love Fran but her armor is ridiculous.

kyrosion reblogged your post To add some “Easter bunny” flavor toda… and added:

Look at the way the top is designed; there’s nothing holding the front up. It’s kinda pretending to be a corset-type thing, but since they cut the stomach out, the bottom part is just dead weight rather than contributing support. The whole outfit should be dragging her breasts down, if it answered to gravity… As is, it’s certainly not lending any support, regardless of whether she’s likely to pop out a boob (which I’d say she is, but that’s more subjective).

So, without futher ado, here’s the updated bingo card for Fran!

72% of the squares and FOUR bingos!

I’m convinced we came across a record breaker.

I’d also add that she wears that outfit while travelling in the Paramina Rift and there is definitely a blizzard happening 1/3 of the time… ie basically naked in cold climate http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100421010742/finalfantasy/images/6/6f/Ice_Elemental.jpg

TIME FOR MOTHER FUCKING BINGO THAT’S WHAT TIME IT IS!

WHO’S OUR FIRST FUCKING CONTESTANT? WELL WE GOT

image

THAT’S GODDAMN RIGHT. KILL LA FUCKING KILL. AND WHAT GAME ARE WE PLAYING? HOW ABOUT SOME FEMALE ARMOR BINGO!

image

WELP! THEY REALLY HIT THE GROUND RUNNING WITH EPISODE ONE! AND MIGHT I ADD THAT THEY’RE KILLIN’ IT OUT THERE WITH THAT HEAVY USE OF UNDERBOOB! I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHERE WE’LL GO NEXT! STAY TUNED FOR MORE!

Until next time

What a perfect post to start Bingo Sundays with! Kill la Kill is an anime notorious for the costumes that seem to be made to combo-break the Female Armor Bingo.

For a more comprehensive look at Ryuko’s costume design, let’s have a peek at the official model sheet:

Seeing that I have to say that the OP, redrovershideaway, was VERY LENIENT towards this character when filling the bingo card and skipped many obvious squares, so let me propose a redux:

Who knew? It gave us a bingo and filled total 60% of the card. What a surprise, huh! 😉

For further commentary regarding Kill la Kill, I recommend this masterpost on repair-her-armor and the lengthy follow-up article on ria-rha.

Anyone willing to submit a bingo filled for Satsuki for the next week?

Zero Suit Samus’ Heels: Why it’s a Big Deal and Why You Should Care

capriceandwhimsy:

So the thing I keep hearing is that Samus’s new Zero Suit design from SSB4 is okay because “they’re not actually high heels, they’re jet boots.”

Bullshit.

But before we get into that: why is it a big deal that Samus is wearing heels in the first place?

Great article regarding character and costume design of Samus Aran throughout the years. Things to learn from it:

  • why slapping “jet boots” label on high heels doesn’t justify the heels
  • what Samus’s appearance conveyed in the old Metroid games and what it does now
  • why is Zero Suit worse than a two-piece skin revealing costume Samus used to have
  • how the recent games betrayed Zero Suit’s original purpose

I highly recommend reading it whole!

In addition, Shattered Earth did a great breakdown on the “Jet Boots” (Dr Evil air quotes there) and explored what they might have looked like if they were designed with purpose here.
