Fixing Some Grim Designs ?, Part 1
Well, it was inevitable that we’d tackle Zenescope in a livestream, considering the kinds of terrifying art that they pump out. And I’m not even talking about their Terror comics.
I decided to fix this cover from Grimm Fairy Tales, since I promised to y’all that I was going to redraw this gal. And I discovered what her name is! It’s Skye, and this is her… combat outfit? Her mom had a similar swimsuit, maybe she stole it off her corpse. Is that spoilers?
I basically ended up doing my usual: give the poor woman a breastplate and comfortable clothes, except I noticed that her bent leg looks weird. There aren’t a lot of comic heroes with physical disabilities that I know of, and I thought, why can’t we have a fairy tale about a disabled woman kicking ass?
I actually liked her face in this one, so all I gave her were thicker brows and a few battle scars. I also tried to make her at least a bit distinct from her mother by giving her some red hair.
Overall, I was going for a warrior who was plunged into the fighting life after her mom died, but maybe she still also wants a life of her own. I don’t know what the actual character motivations are, if they even exist.
Maybe I should have given her a different skirt shape…

Tidy Up #98
There is one primary topic for this tidy up, but one that we thought was very important on many levels.
If you haven’t already – please consider not sending any money to Blizzard.
(Yes, I say this as someone who has purchased multiple copies of Overwatch due to competitions and playing it with friends)
In addition to their general awful representation (and claiming cookies for improvement while getting worse), in the past few weeks Blizzard has:
- Announced they are deny a Hearthstone tournament winner his prize, and ban him from play for twelve months, based off him supporting the (non-violent) Hong Kong liberation movement
- Also suspended the broadcaster crew filming interview for no apparent reason other something happened while they were doing their job.
- Announced they understood people were upset, so they’d halve the suspension times (and pay the prize to the winner) – while stressing that they absolutely were not doing this to support China
- Told China, at the exact same time, they were doing this to show there would be zero tolerance to criticism of China’s policies
- Did I mention that original “it’s not China” announcement looked suspiciously like it was written by someone in China?
- Banned accounts on their forums for 1000 years for mentioning support of Hong Kong
- Scrambled the name of the “Gay Boys” guild (is this a bad time to point out in 2015 they wanted to participate in Pride despite having zero LGBT characters and a long history of homophobia and transphobia)
At this point, it’s pretty safe to say that Blizzard is not only comfortable with supporting authoritarian regimes, but actively courting them in the hopes of increasing revenues… basically they’re the bad guys in all their properties.
But, to ensure that this isn’t completely a downer we do also want to draw attention to:
- The artists who have transformed (clearly against Blizzard’s will) Mei into a symbol of Hong Kong’s liberation.
- The Blizzard staff members who staged a walk out and publicly stood up to their employers despite the obvious risks to their careers.
- Chung “blitzchung” Ng Wai, who stood up tall when suspended and having gone through all of this has taken the time to express that Blizzard should lift the suspension on the broadcasters.
- The courageous protesters in Hong Kong who are asserting their rights and demanding accountability from their government.

Please consider letting this inspire you to be more politically aware and active in your life. Starting by declining to spend in a manner that leads to that money going to Blizzard.
(And of course, since there’s capital G gamers involved: please do double check any commentary you see on this that seems suspicious. Particularly if it is targeting the workers at Blizzard rather than the company’s controllers)

I don’t even care that this is exactly the same outfit I bingo’d with different Gantz character figure – I just hate it so much.
And like the other one, this also comes in a black bodypaint “catsuit” version with a gun instead of a sword.

Someone please save those poor ladies!

Supergirl Suit Redesigns, by Grace Kooken (Earth Ambassador Suit @ top)
Y’all need to check out the original page for this right now. There are breakdown images of each suit, with glow-in-the-dark options and turnarounds. And there are some other fun suits, like a Sun Suit and a Tank-Buster Suit.
These are all so fun, and each has its own style and flair. And they’re situation-appropriate! They’re really a joy to look at. I love how the more typical suits she would wear day-to-day keep to her established color scheme, but the “special” suits dip into different colors, but not in a way that makes her unrecognizable. Except maybe the Earth Ambassador suit, because she’s not representing herself in that context, but it comes with the coolest cloak in the known universe, so I don’t even care.

Check out the artist’s gallery for more fun characters and clay work, if that’s your thing.
