nicksuckseggs submitted (and Ozzie bingo’d)

This is the newest addition to High-Rez’s hero fighter, “Paladins” who is one of the more interesting characters on their roster as far as her character goes, but that just makes it so much more disappointing that this is the design they ended up going with. This full screen image was the first thing I was greeted with upon logging in after the latest patch.

My biggest question is how she’s going to find the person who stole the rest of her outfit (and mangled her spine?) with that blindfold on, and hopefully that necklace doesn’t impale itself into her chest while she’s chasing them.

The one positive I find in this creatively sterile design* is the fact that Seris, unlike most Paladins champions, isn’t a direct or indirect ripoff of any Overwatch character.
Though it won’t surprise me if she was heavily influenced by someone from a more fantasy-oriented franchise, like LoL or WoW… or maybe Warmachine [x]:

*Seriously, this is the top stock illustration for a “blind sorceress” that google proposes.

Thanks joabobs for for the tip about Legacy of Discord. I was having fun with this bingo (picked out of several different options that were equally generic and lingerie-y) but then I found this image and I died a little more inside:

I mean, besides the hilariously obvious double standard, that… whatever it is she’s wearing is so uninspired, and the messy rendering makes me think they spent an entire 25 minutes on it because Creepy Marketing Guy wanted a Hot Chick™ on the advertisement. Her giant hat is the coolest thing about her design, but even that isn’t done well. Compare her to the guy on the right, who has what looks like a literal bear trap on his armor. I want one of those! (Also the shape language on him is just a lot clearer.)

I got distracted from the original point of this post, but do I really need to say more about Ms. Furious Wings up there besides Kerrigan Lingerie Victoria’s Secret Angel?

Vikings: War Of Clans

I can’t believe it’s not porn. It’s the advertisement for the latest strategy game Vikings;War Of Clans!

When I thinking Viking I think uncomfortable underwear. She has a good helmet, shame about everything else. I’m sure this will sell millions of copies, and certainly won’t be forgotten within a month.

Well, given it’s from the creators of Stormfall, Total Domination, Nords and of course Sparta: War of Empires (who had an affiliate actual steal images from a porn movie cover once) and include promotional imagery like this:

image
image

It’s not terribly surprising to discover that this image, which is hosted on a major affiliate networking site that makes bold promises:

image

Is actually fetish art, literally off deviantArt*, and the fetish in this case is highly sexualized female gladiators brutally killing each other.  This is apparently, a stock standard image that the affiliate site keeps on their servers just in case they get a client they think will match that.

I can’t be the only one who thinks this is all more than a little messed up that a major advertiser thinks this is a great generic fantasy game image. (I don’t even want to think how they found this image in the first place)

Looks like somebody searched the dA image category of “artistic nude.” Even if we’re stretching suspension of disbelief for the “almost naked gladiator fighters” trope, the design is just… boring. They didn’t even put in the minimal effort of giving her some kind of insignia or blood splatter or anything.

*The artwork can be found here. Please be warned that the linked deviantArt account features disturbing content including gore and sexualized death.

(Half-mark on the thong because it appears she has briefs with little windows to simulate the thong look. Just think, someone had to model that… and the mini underboob windows too.)

We’ve had a few people respond to the Nier Automata post with asks and submissions about the foul mouthed, incredibly violent sidekick from the original Nier game: Kaine.  (Trivia: Kaine is one of the very few canon intersex characters in video games, in one version of the game, which adds all kinds of baggage to this outfit and her depiction in general)

For those interested, this is the hero, Nier… both versions of him (It’s complicated and Kaine is dressed the same in both versions):

For those interested in how this went from being pulp fantasy to a cyberpunk war of androids in couture and VR goggles against alien robots… you can probably guess there is no simple explanation to anything.

Suffice to say though, Yoko Taro’s confession that he just likes putting sexy girls in his games was entirely unsurprising.

I could do this all day

She will fit into your favorite moba game very good character garanteed

Edit: Holy shit it’s a joke please stop tagging this as reference/helpful/wow so good please stop using this as reference please stop thinking this is your goal please stop holy crap holy cRAP

You need to seriously re-evaluate  yourself if you believe the incredibly narrow and offensive things in these gifs oMgGG

Everything about it is so painfully accurate, but the “Pick ≤ 3” part is my favorite one for the purposes of this blog.

I love how pasties are the only essential chestware and how the actual high heels are not “necessary” just so long as her shoes maintain the same shape as if there were heels there.

edit: Added the author’s later commentary, just to make it clear that no-one’s supposed to take this “tutorial” seriously. ~Ozzie

Because the subject of “just let the artist do whatever they like/want!” comes up regularly and far too many people are confused about what is wrong about nearly every female character looking next-to-identical, even within one game with a big cast*, this week’s throwback is the guide to the “creative” process behind designing women in media AND their costumes (bikini armor or otherwise) by the invaluable @shattered-earth.

And just for the record, this gifset is still a joke. Please do not take it as legitimate art advice!

Djeeta by Minaba Hideo, she’s one of the two main characters from a Japanese mobile/browser game called Granblue Fantasy.

The last pic is her male counterpart to for some comparison between the two characters.

This is by far the least imaginative gladiatrix/ancient female warrior costume we’ve had on BABD. Literal modern bikini/underwear set with normal armor on arms and legs!
Even her cuisses are shorter to enhance femoral artery stabbing show more luscious thigh flesh.

One thing that’s particularly funny when comparing the two is that the guy has no upper arm protection, while lady gets big pauldrons and besagews attached to nothing! Yup, their function as auxiliary armor is so totally not compromised by the lack of breastplate.

Black Desert Online

@avatarwill113 submitted:

A Dark Knight from Black Desert Online. It’s so incredible generic and dreadful.

image

I do get the feeling that Black Desert Online crew does more research looking through Lady Gaga’s wardrobe than any textbook.  Sadly this doesn’t make them unique in the slightest, just perhaps the most blatant. (x

image

Of course, Lady Gaga is trying to get attention through some combination of shock and novelty, and is hopefully not expecting to get trapped in mortal combat at any moment.

the-hittite:

Just so we’re clear, Chandra, Torch of Defiance wears the most practical version of her armor to date. (The least practical goes to the manga adaptation of The Purifying Fire.) But compared to the armor designs worn by other residents of Kaladesh, it seems a little out of place.

For those curious regarding the fore-mentioned manga:

image

Essentially the spectrum highlights the problems that happens if a company like Wizards sets a vague design for a character then tries to “fix” it (depending on their priorities on any given day) without ever changing it in a meaningful way.

In this case, if you compare to the previous images of Chandra from the official Magic the Gathering imagery, the changes are:

  • Swapped chainmail for scalemail (both of which are absent in the manga)
  • Given her more substantial faulds (which are decorative in the manga)
  • Given her a weird collar/gorget thingie
  • Added extra cloth to her loincloth and made it heavier
  • Made her boots go all the way up to (presumably) her groin
  • Given her actual hair instead of just fire

So essentially all her redesigns and attempts to redevelop her were all preemptively critiqued in 1994, by known intellectual Lisa Simpson:
