I believe the the “alternative covers” gimmick (also known as “a cheap sales boost technique that contributed to the 90s comic crash”) has reached it’s apex with “Van Helsing vs Dracula”. (We’re going to gloss over that traditionally, Van Helsing didn’t have any other opponents).
You can oggle the “heroine” or you can oggle Dracula’s brides while he’s relegated to the back. The plot summary of this masterpiece?
“A Final Blessing: The terrifying tale of horror’s biggest icon comes to a close! As Dracula’s minions paint London red, Van Helsing enters her final conflict with the vampire that can’t die. Everything is on the line, and only one will survive!“
I somehow doubt this is in any way resembles the brief that the cover artist was given, if indeed they were given any brief.

oh my god one of the raid members had this thing on their team I hate everything I hate this game
The horror. THE HORROR
The always amazing @eschergirls recently ran some contests, challenging people to think up explanations for what’s happening in the full sized art.
While no mortal can ever make sense of that concept, they did do a fantastic job of adding much needed comic relief to this horror. *

* Some part of me still desperately hopes the artist intended this as a subversive work of horror.
A reader just informed us that there is indeed a (ridiculosly spiky) pec-window assassin in a mainstream game… But the empowerment of his costume is completely overshadowed by his female counterpart.
I couldn’t resist bingo-ing her. If only her costume was as pointly as her male friend’s, she’d score a full row!

Content warning for sex worker-phobic language bit later (around 11:55) in the video.
Nostalgia Critic’s Spawn movie review took a shot at questioning randomly sexy assassin lady costume, which results in an exchange quite familiar to this blog:
-Anybody who dresses like that is NOT gonna take their job seriously.*
-What am I supposed to wear?
-Armor, bulletproof vest, a mask to hide your face!
-How are people supposed to know that I’m a woman?
-It doesn’t matter if you’re a woman. It’s actually better if they don’t know you’re a woman, because then you’d be harder to find!
Bonus points for this particular character being one of antagonists, which feeds squarely into “evil is sexy” cliche.
Especially since all her killer co-workers, including pre-Spawn Al Simmons (who she replaces as the top assassin), dress sensibly.
When will the day of pec-window male assassins come?

* We assume Doug meant any job where serious personal injury is a regular risk.
I remember when the Spawn movie flopped, the creator of the franchise, Todd McFarlane, blamed the director for taking too much creative license (which was hilarious in itself McFarlane himself left Marvel due to them not allowing him enough creative license).
