Have you seen the heroes for Warhammer: Vermintide? It’s an upcoming Co-op Horde Mode type game similar to Left 4 Dead. The two lady characters are pretty fantastic. There is a middle-aged badass fire wizard and an elven archer who is covered head to toe.

Given Games Workshop’s usual design policies, which are less than optimal, I’m going to assume this is more Fatshark Games’ doing.  Thankfully it looks like they took a lot of inspiration from Left 4 Dead as well Warhammer.

This was part of a much larger bit by Extra Credits on messages sent by games and how design decisions can (even unwittingly) transform games into propaganda.  Games do have an interactive aspect, but the core principles remain true for any media product.

Overall it’s a very important aspect that creators should consider with any sort of system where appearance changes with progress – whether it’s part of item choice, character plot arc or just revising character appearances between chapters.

There’s a reason we have the “More Advanced Armor = Skimpier” box on the Female Armor Bingo.

Me and honestlyvan redesigned Fran’s armor from Final Fantasy XII because, well, obvious reasons.

Van figured that the viera probably practise guerilla warfare inside the forest, so they mostly wear muted leather and a ghillie cape as camouflage.

Thumbs up for a 200% improvement.

Oh hey, turns out that fantasy rabbit people don’t have to wear elaborate fetish metal underwear as armor to convey a sense of, well, fantasy.

(Not) surprisingly, there’s also no way to justify them wearing absurdly high heels as an evolutionary advantage.
