Tidy-Up Tuesday #18

This week:

@virtualvillain is currently looking for non-binary people who play games to share their experiences for a research paper.

While it’s more up @eschergirls than BABD’s valley, we do know of and adore the Buzzfeed video/article We Had Women Photoshopped Into Stereotypical Comic Book Poses And It Got Weird.

Things we addressed before:

Tidy Up Tuesday #17

We would like to kindly remind all our fans and readers that BABD (as well as many of its related blogs, especially @eschergirls) focuses on criticizing commercial artwork made by industry professionals.

We encourage everyone interested in doing similar critique to ours to not bash on amateur/hobbyist/fan content

For-profit indie projects, though, while they’re not as mainstream as AAA studios, are not free from criticism.

It appears Ubisoft has recognized the awesome of Evie Frye and the first Assassin’s Creed Syndicate DLC focuses on her going up against Jack the Ripper.

The fact that some archers use asymmetrical breast straps and that mythical Amazons (supposedly!) cut off one breast for better aim with the bow, doesn’t really change how badly designed is Phoebe’s half-boobplate in Indivisible!

TL;DR:

Tidy-Up Tuesday #15

When submitting a post and/or messaging us, please be considerate of the volume of our inbox and refrain from sending us multiple messages and/or submissions in a row. They are really hard to manage and scroll through.

If possible, put everything in a single post/message. That includes additional images (which should be inserted in the post’s text body).

Also, PLEASE do not forget to include sources to whatever you’re submitting/recommending for a BABD post.

We are aware that many games which use questionable attire in their imagery have better armor in game, but we’re still not okay with that and we also know who’s generally to blame.

History (and even present day) has many quirks and examples of a lot of things, however when we talk about historical concepts we have to paint them with a broad brush in order to keep it concise enough to be useful.

Queries we got recently that were on BABD before:

Tidy Up Tuesday #14

This week tidying-up:

Many readers noted us  that artwork Sword of Chaos uses in their online banners is fanart (for Legend of Zelda and Card Captor Sakura, in this case) stolen from a popular artist, @sakimichan.

Yes, SoC is that shameless.

A reminder: just because something appears on our blog (therefore we consider it worth criticizing), it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it.

Hell, acknowledging problems in things that we are fans of enriches the experience.

As many rebloggers and commenters pointed out, it would be nice to see life action Wonder Woman have genuinely amazonian built, like how Stjepan Sejic depicts her. Still, at the end of the day,

ill-suiting physique (unlike

tacky sexualized costume) is at least something that can be compensated with the actresses’s good performance.

A reader, @jarahamee, asked us to signal boost their new webcomic,

Shining Ascension, which stars two well-suited warrior ladies on a quest together.
The story is just 8 pages in at the moment, but so far it looks promising, especially the gorgeous art.

The comic updates on Sundays. Its official tumblr is @shiningascension
