So, at the present moment due to her recent addition to the game – Anna Williams of weird (creepcontent warning: forced stripping as public humilation) misogynistic “these sisters hate each other and publicly humiliate each other kink in my game” fame is one of the “faces” of Tekken 7 right now.  Traditionally her outfits have been cocktail dresses, but this one may be the worse one yet.

Of course, it’s not just this outfit that’s terrible… she has a couple of others which look like really bad Halloween costumes “sexy pirate” and… I don’t even know.

image

And just in case that wasn’t horrifying enough – apparently she’s hiding not just throwing knives but a rocket launcher within that outfit.

That is not a joke.

And of course the other one (ie the guy) is Lei, who gets to wear like… comfy street clothes.

Look, I’m not saying that this marketing strategy wouldn’t be effective at getting the attention of twelve year olds… but is this really the best way to market products supposedly suitable for pre- teens?

– wincenworks

This week’s throwback: cover image that totally tells us what the game is about and is very definitely appropriate to tweens. Yup, totally.

Seriously though, while 12-year olds are not too young to begin understanding their own sexuality interest in butts, how about we don’t make them internalize the idea of reducing women to body parts? And maybe consider what kind of message it sends to 12-year old girls?

So a lot of people are talking about many aspects of Apex Legends and there’s a lot of positives – a non-binary character, a character with a same-sex relationship in their background (mentioned immediately), not just one but two playable black women characters… but not enough people are talking about how awesome Bangalore’s outfit is.

This is the default outfit, and it looks every inch her description according to the background fluff the official site provides.

image

Interestingly it appears the Bangalore has the opposite of the Creepy Marketing Guy syndrome… the concept art displayed is much more… regular video game.

This is a trend I would very much like to take off like wildfire.

Somebody used this gif to “prove” that Metal Gear sexualises men the same as women:

Do people really think this is equivalent to Quiet (et al.) or are they being disingenuous?

I find it hilarious how dudes will insist that if people really knew about Metal Gear Solid they’d know about Raiden and that he was (allegedly) as objectified as Quiet… despite the fact Raiden and his butt run (very late in the game) were both surprises to the player (and the development team) and Quiet was used heavily as marketing material a year in advance of MGS V being released.

That and well, I could only find one figure of Raiden breathing through his skin:

image

It’s almost like he wasn’t intended to titillate or something.

#nakedness doesn’t equal sexualisation

Continuing the theme of false equivalence… yes, we have seen (and commented on) people who proudly claim that Raiden’s naked run justifies Quiet’s “breathing through skin” un-costume.

We’re also familiar with the general confusion between sexualization and nudity. Vast majority of the Status Quo Warriors conflate bare skin with being sexual, so by that logic, Conan/Kratos/Zangief are equally, if not more sexualized than their scantily-clad female peers and therefore sexism is “solved”.

This, of course, willfully ignores the simple fact that not only so much more goes into sexualization than nudity (like framing, posing, expressions etc.) or that there are different ‘decency’ standards for bodies of different sexes

(especially nipples), but also how bare skin itself doesn’t yet guarantee sexyness.

That’s why @partsal‘s female barbarian comparison is still a perfect example of how completely different character premise can be conveyed with the same amount of bare body:

After long weeks of fighting Tumblr’s amazingly absurd flagging and appeal system, this post finally became visible again, so we can bring it up.

YES, DESPITE ALL ODDS, PEOPLE STILL UNIRONICALLY ARGUE THAT NEKKID RAIDEN IS AS SEXUALIZED AS QUIET IS. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

So here’s our brief reminder about the (not really) subtle difference between nudity and objectification.

Fire Emblem: Pantsening, Part 1

(The title is not a joke on Awakening, I know Nyx is not from that game.)

So, doing redesigns for the game series that keeps on giving… its lady characters no pants. I don’t even care if they’re garbage pants, can they please have something, so that they’re not riding frigging scaley wyverns with bARE LEGS-

Ahem. Anyway, Fire Emblem. I decided to redesign Nyx. I don’t know what it is with me and FE dark mage types. Mostly, what caught my eye was that this was another FE woman who looks way younger than her age, while wearing strangely revealing clothes.

image

Most of the edits I did involved giving her an actual shirt, rather than…. uhh?? … as well as some PANTS. I also broke up her shoes into two parts mostly for the design aspect. Such tall thigh-highs make any non-leggings look weird. The last big change was her veil, which I tried to make a little more realistic-looking. I’m not sure how, in the original, the veil is supposed to be hanging down, but then be behind her long bangs that fall close to her face??

The dark skin-tone parts on her clothes are opaque, by the way. I was just too lazy to come up with another color for them, to be honest. This was definitely one of those streams where I was struggling to work with what I had… I probably could have done a better job given more time, but I’m fairly happy with it as it is now. I promise I’ll do a non-mage the next time we redesign Fire Emblem ladies.

Sooooo….. this is a thing.

This the Demonic skin for Aurelia, an angel character in Heroes of the Storm. She normally looks like this:

image

So of course when she becomes a demon (or almost, according to the backstory blurb), she wears an S&M outfit, cause that’s what demons are about? Where’s my S&M Azmodan skin, then, Blizzard??

The closest a male equivalent outfit gets is the Demonic Imperius skin, where he shows off his abs but unfortunately doesn’t wear a leather harness.

image

At least he wears hot pants, but at the same time, he gets, like, a legitimate chest piece. Auriel is getting a nip slip the second she casts anything, assuming angels have nipples. Imperius also has an actual demonic appearance about him, whereas Auriel is just a Hot Chick with red wings. The fact that none of the angels have faces only makes it worse with her design.

Ugh. It’s such a shame, they could have made her actually scary-looking, but we can’t have that. After all, even an alien insect queen has to have a hot skin.

Hot Blizzard dudes Part 2 – Alexei Stukov

While Ozzie continued her silver fox transformation theme, I continued my own theme of Hot Monster Men, this time with Stukov here. I thought his halfsie outfit had some fun potential.

So instead of toning down the monstrosity, I decided to just make the monster half Hotter. Instead of tentacles on his chest, I gave him a zerg tiddy, because we all know how much the zerg love those tiddies. (And yes, that’s a nipple.) I also got rid of his shirt, because it’s not like he needs it. It’s all torn up by the infection anyway.

I reduced his pants to a thong (trust me, it’s a thong in the back), made his boots into thigh-high high heels, and added some hair on the visible skin. After all, we have to remember that Stukov was a man once. It’s all part of his Character Development.

Oh, and we can’t forget the little tentacle dick in his shorts. Or is it just a tentacle down his shorts? It’s for the Fans to figure out!

Finally, I gave him a face that better communicates his age of 50-52, at least according to how Blizzard draws them.

Overall, I had fun with this one, since it was pretty silly, but I hope that Blizzard realizes what the people want.
