Also big thanks to her for juxtaposing the infamous design with how female version of that character would actually look.
We’ve seen a concerning amount of responses which claim that somehow this paragon of conventionally attractive masculine form is so effeminate that he’s practically a girl… Because showing a lot of skin and having pretty hair is inherently feminine, I suppose?
Gamer dudebros sure like stretching to validate their sexually confused rage.

Bringing this back as a reminder that if Wal was actually female, no dudebro would bat an eye at his original skimperrific costume. Neither would they demand it to cover up more, let alone have that request granted by developers.

‘Cause, as we all know, asking for less scanty outfits is “censorship” only if a woman is wearing them. Especially if people asking to cover up the character are feminists.

Backstory made to fit a sexualized design vs. a design made to fit a backstory requiring a character to wear minimal clothing.

Thank you, shattered-earth! 

It is crucial to understand that a character design has to be informative of who the character is. And that sexualized designs do not inform us of it, just break the immersion.

Quiet’s a mercenary with a fictional condition that requires her to uncover as much skin as possible? Fine, then either make her totally nude or give her minimal clothing that is actually comfortable for her job.

Princess Zelda is royalty and a magic user, so her armor has to be fancy rather than simplistic and practical as Link’s? Sure, then make it gown-like and ornamental, just don’t leave out random patches of skin where she can be conveniently stabbed.

Charlotte is a gold-digging seductress who pretends to be innocent and demure? Then maybe instead of a boob-flaunting bikini give her a child-like costume that matches that persona?

As excited I was about ME:A being announced, this (i’m sure very fast) concept art put a bad taste in my mouth. Just goes to show how silly poses for women are so ingrained into artist’s heads that they probably did it without thinking, not realizing how they broke her out of perspective (check her shoulders and feet against the man) just to achieve it too. I mean they were probably drawn separately but no one was like wait a second… lol

Even with equal amounts of body coverage, Mass Effect characters can’t escape the double standard.

Personally I am hoping that the E3 demo armor was chosen for conveying more dynamic motion and this is just a side effect of marketing people going overboard with it.  

It is good though that they’re now promoting the female option right away and I do hope that the rest of the armors will be more like what we saw last year.

I find it amusing that these games go into predictable advertising spirals.  It happened with Evony and now it’s happening with League of Angels.

First it’s sexy images with generic taglines.

Then it’s softcore porn images with taglines befitting hardcore porn.

Then it’s annoying as affiliate/spamming programs.

It’s pretty much the predictable pattern of a mediocre product that’s sustaining by the wishful thinking of executives and investors who are unable to learn from history.
