So, Mai Shiranui is the latest crossover character in the latest Dead or Alive game, continuing their trend of amazing double standards in character design.

image

I think the fact that the trailer’s only priorities are to reassure us Mia doesn’t wear anything close to conventional panties and jiggle physics (did I mention that Team Ninja also try to maximize upskirt physics?)

They also released a trailer for new bunch of costumes and a stage crossing over with Attack on Titan – so naturally they need to assure their intended audience that the otherwise sensible costumes will be destroyable.  So that’s going to be thing that we’re going to have in this reality.

Oh, and for those who worrying we’re demanding compromises on an artist’s important vision and forcing censorship

Tomonobu Itagaki doesn’t like this either and thinks it’s ruining the series that he started:

“Thank you everyone. I’m so glad to hear your voices. Please support our DOA together. I have to say. DOA can’t survive with money earned by continuously selling too much sexual DLCs. DOA can live with respects from all of the DOA fans. So, please make them aware of what they have to do for the future of DOA.”

Dear BABD

Please let me share with you a tale of hopes and disappointment, starring Riders of Icarus, by our old mutual friend Nexon.

“Well, that is an interesting looking class. I wonder how it looks on females. It probably has a battle skirt or something.”

image

“Good lord, is that actual full plate? Armored legs and everything?”

image

“Oh. I don’t know what I expected.”

Yours, vonBoomslang

Nexon is such a wild ride, I mean I struggle to understand how the same people publishing Vindictus also publish Dirty Bomb!

Looking at the promotional screenshots for this game, one might easily be tricked into believing that the armor for ladies would not be terrible:

image

I mean it doesn’t look great, but the main issue is the stock-standard boobplate that seems to be mandatory in so many fantasy RPGs these days.  Even the trailer isn’t too bad for the first sixty seconds… then:

Apparently there are still people out there who believe that the MMORPG market is not yet over saturated with this exact same style of double standard nonsense.  Somehow.

Found this oh so lovely set of female mage armor on Artstation. I had some time so I decided to make some fixes. They’re not amazing by any means, but at least these women can move without worry of a breeze or breaking an ankle/neck in the heat of battle.

The artist also made a set of male counterparts to these and they look nothing alike (surprise, surprise).

Here’s the link:

https://www.artstation.com/artwork/O94e

Very nice redesign.  Personally what I find amazing about the male counterparts is that it seems their outfits are already very unisex and would be quite flattering on many bodies:

Looking around these appear to be concepts for a new “card” game by the creators of Vindictus.  It seems, that they’ve been quite free and loose with the art direction, but apparently quite determined to maintain double standards.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

It’s about shopping and making the town great with your awesome deals and moneymaking skills, yet…..they gotta appeal to male viewers!!
*cringes*

Gotta appeal to male viewers who have specific desires and hence want to see fantasy women in ridiculous outfits, often covering up one eye with hair and/or baring their midriff.   This seriously looks more like it’s someone’s idea for a dating sim than a shop simulator/manager game.

Among other concerns, this makes me worry that someone is going to make a Fantasy World Dating Sim and it’s going to get all kinds of negative reviews from confused people who thought it was a dungeon crawlers, shop manager, tactical strategy or pretty much any sort of game other than a dating sim.
