Tidy up Tuesday #50
Longer tidy up after two weeks:
Rose of Winter’s playable DEMO (with music by Undertale’s Toby Fox) is here! Check it out to see how it’s worth all the support on Steam Greenlight!
While lack of helmet isn’t realistically a good thing for armor design (and often gets used as a tool of gendered double standards – hence it’s on the bingo), we do not think an otherwise positive example should be considered ruined or invalid because of it.
Don’t feel shy to send us a redraw/redesign of bad armor, we’d be happy to have it among positive examples!
When submitting a bingo to BABD, mark it however you want, even in MS Paint. Ozzie, for example, uploads blank card to her sta.sh and scribbles on it with deviantArt Muro – feel free to do the same if you have dA account.
Things we addressed before:
- Our thoughts on Fate series, particularly Saber/Artoria, by far their only positive example of female warrior (and even she’s not always safe).
- The “Choose your character” ad for Game of War.
- Zarya and the fact that she’s (loosely) based on a Russian Blizzard employee.
- @thechrishaley‘s Superman’s new costume with glorious chest (hair) window.
- Wartune web banner appaering next to the most ironically unsuiting Polygon article for it.
- How much hope we have in the Wonder Woman movie (not much): here, here and here
Oh, and for those who are still enraged at our male empowerment tag – remember that avoiding it is as easy as not following our blog. Avoiding similar examples with female characters is as simple as traversing to an alternative reality or moving to another planet.

So, while most VR developers are interested in novel concepts and ways players can interact with the virtual world… there’s other ones who just want to get as creepy as they can without getting arrested.
Roller Girls is quite amazing in not only is it a VR game that doesn’t promise any VR elements (it requires a gamepad and is various arcade games) but is made by a studio who’s whole tagline is they want to make VR games. Seriously.

So, HiRez (of SMITE fame) have released Paladins into open beta and well, Cassie is one of their heroes – actually one of their more hardcore looking female heroes. After all, this is their promo banner:
