Tidy-up Tuesday #6

It’s been a particularly eventful week of updates for us, so no wonder some queries we receive should be addressed.

Please do not comment under BABD posts without adhering to our commenting guidelines.

For those who say we’re being “too negative” in our criticism: look it up in our FAQ.

A reminder our focus is on commercial media, as such we do not feature/call-out personal artworks as examples of the tropes we criticize.  We are certainly interested in personal artworks that critique the issue of bikini armor or provide information about armor and/or design.

Thank you to kuronanestimare for directing us to the segment of Angry Joe’s review where he talks about Quiet. This is the review where he gives the game “the highest possible 9/10 and easily Badass Seal of Approval”. Proving once again, that you can love The Return of the Jedi but hate Ewoks.

Some issues we’ve address previously but received queries recently:

Tidy Up Tuesday #4

A few little tidy ups this week.

When submitting an image please take the time to change the submit form to image/photo and attach it  – it makes things much simpler for us.

A special message to the people who were concerned about critics being mean to Chun Li, Cammy and Quiet.

Some topics we have received queries about but have covered before:

Tidy Up Tuesday #2.5

A few quick points this week.

Some people were concerned that David Sim, of Cerebus fame, has a reputation for misogyny – yes he does and we do not support his politics.  We do however find it worth noticing that even he saw major problems with bikini armor back in the 70s.

Once again, people have rushed to assure us someone told them SMITE is okay and not appropriative.  This time it’s the localization publisher and existing fanbase in China – that you can find someone to give it the thumbs up does not mean it doesn’t have a problem.  Particularly when the someone is a group who are apparently already largely unconcerned with the issue and/or stand to make money by giving you the thumbs up.

Due to time and resource constraints, we are unfortunately unable to offer critiques for personal works or projects.  The focus of the blog has always and will always be big commercial projects that get wide exposure because those are the projects who should know better and who do make big impacts.

We also had a query about whether we’re okay with sexy lady armor if the guys are similarly outfitted.  This depends on two criteria: Are they actually equally sexualized? And why are they all dressed like this?

Tidy Up Tuesday #2

Just a quick tidy up this week.

Some titles we’ve been asked about that have been covered before:

And also… this very sexy piece of high fashion.

Our FAQ got an update over the weekend. A new question appeared and now all the questions are conveniently listed as links at the top of the subpage.

Dissolve magazine recently ran an excellent article, “We’re losing all our strong female characters to Trinity Syndrome”, which talks about the tendency to make a female character to be awesome right until the male protagonist arrives.
