Tidy Up Tuesday #48

A few things to catch up on this week

Things we addressed before:

We also have have people referring us to more positive examples than we can really feature in a week without derailing the focus of the blog, so here’s a few we thought we’d share here:

A few things to catch up on.

Please remember that we focusing our critique on commercial products that are not intended as sexual productions so we won’t feature critiques of artworks intended simply to be sexy pinups.

That also applies if they’re just being sold without permission on sites such as eBay or Etsy (since that’s certainly not the artist’s fault or part of larger business).

(Commercial games, etc being made using stolen art assets are absolutely fair game though)

Tidy Up Tuesday #45

When submitting a post with images in it, please don’t insert pics from external sources, like Photobucket – they’re super unreliable. When uploading images from your own hard drive isn’t possible, it’s best to make a private post on your own tumblr blog and insert pictures from there.

You are always welcome to direct people to Bikini Armor Battle Damage as a resource for information about gender issues in fictional armor or tag us into anything that you feel we might be interested in.

If you have general questions about armor or how to adapt in fiction, you can send your queries to @how-do-i-armour-and-stuff

Tidy Up Tuesday #44

A longer tidy-up this week:

While tangentially related to BABD, we gotta thank all the readers who directed us at @wackd‘s Bad Genderbend Bingo, a very acute look into double standards in redesigning an established character to be of different sex/gender (in this bingo’s case, male to female).

Few more facts regarding Frank Cho storming off DC due to “censorship” of his optional Wonder Woman covers:

  • It was not disclosed to Cho that Greg Rucka, the writer for recent Wonder Woman run, was given creative control over all the cover art.
  • Cho seems to regard “artistic freedom” of his optional cover freelance contract equally (if not more) valid to Rucka’s script freelance contract with DC.
  • While Rucka asked for several changes in Cho’s covers, cropping of the gratuitous pantyshot in issue #3 is what ultimately prompted the artist to quit.

For those confused why we didn’t heap unconditional praise over Ana Amari’s design is because Blizzard has a long history of taking a very safe half-step forward and expecting praise (and then halting all progress indefinitely).  Overwatch has an abundance of problems that aren’t going to be fixed by adding a new character or pretending the game has something close to gender equitable representation.

Tidy Up Tuesday #43

From time to time we receive questions relating to armor or battle in general, requests for feedback on designs or more in depth analysis of outfits that doesn’t really fit the focus of this blog.

So, wincenworks is now experimenting with a side blog that will focus on addressing those gaps – called, creatively enough: How do I armour and stuff?

If you have sent any such requests or queries to BABD then please feel free to re-send them there (Tumblr really doesn’t facilitate cross blog submissions)

It has been brought to our attention that the recently featured US Avengers comic unfortunately greatly whitens Roberto da Costa – so while we love Toni’s armor we do not endorse the comic it’s unfortunately debuting in.
