On the subject of armors appropriate for the cold climate, let’s have a look at LoL’s Sejuani, pre- and post-redesign.

We do (and will continue to) have reservations about the portrayal of women in League of Legends, but it would be unfair to overlook Riot’s first big token of answering audience feedback: turning Sejuani from a bikini-armored warrior woman riding an arctic beast to a boobplate-armored warrior woman riding arctic beast.

Obviously, we do take issue with the new design, particularly its boobplate, lack of any sort of protection for the neck and a waist so small that it suggests nothing’s underneath, but the noticable bingo score reduction speaks for itself. It was an improvement, even if questionable.

And now, seeing as they introduced Illaoi, we truly hope League of Legends gets continuously better with their female characters.

BABD Recommends – Game Mods Edition

While many major developers fall short on a regular basis, but thankfully there are people who work diligently to correct their shortfalls.  And here are the works of a few whom we particularly recommend.

Despite the many perils of looking through mod sites, and the things that I can never unsee, I still love modders and the way they allow players to adjust their own experience and add the kind of content they want to see.

Sadly due to the nature of systems involved, most of these are only available for PC only.

Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age 2

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Mass Effect 3

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Have fun!

* This mod unfortunately had a “fair skinned” version added, which we do not recommend.  Just say “no” to white washing.

Why A Street Fighter ‘Butt Slap’ Was Removed

Why A Street Fighter ‘Butt Slap’ Was Removed

So remember the outcry that somehow a zoom in shot of Rainbow Mika (R. Mika)’s butt slap was so critical to the game that it’s remove was an act of vile censorship?  Well we now have the official word from the Street Fighter team on what led to that memorable day:

“We didn’t make any change because of external influences,” he says. “Those changes came up internally. We decided to remove that because we want the biggest possible number of people to play, and we don’t want to have something in the game that might make someone uncomfortable.

The even better news is that those who were enraged that such an amazing act of censorship could occur have pretty much re-affirmed the point.  After a month and a lot of publicity, the petition only gathered 6,300 signatures (and at least one duplicate I noticed).  Most of these guys still don’t seem to believe that the developers actually decided on this change on their own…

and they’re probably all going to buy the game anyway:

I can’t imagine why the developers may choose to try to appeal to people outside of this demographic… oh wait, I can.

We’ve had a few people contact us with great excitement to let us know about Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess – and I was initially reluctant to look at any design by Riot that could potentially involve tentacles.  After all, they are basically the go-to for the creatively bankrupt seeking to produce “sex sells” fantasy artwork.

But now I look at it and the videos showing her attacks…

This is what improvement looks like.  While there’s still room for discussion, this is a clear shift away from their old design principles.  And special thanks to @lightlunas for directing us to this gem:

This isn’t a commonly known fact, but a huge chunk of League’s female characters actually share an identical (or near identical) face and body, and are only differentiated by their hair and clothing.”

If by “not a commonly known fact” they mean “public knowledge”
