The time has come!

Because Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain came out this week, we decided to celebrate by finally filling out a bingo card for Quiet, who’s been a BABD regular basically since the game was announced.
And with two bingo-scoring rows she doesn’t disappoint… in a bad way, obviously.

As we always expected, the only thing harder to take seriously than Quiet’s costume is the rhetoric behind it. You know, the über-genius explanation that was going to put non-believers to shame

Eyup, her official in-story reasons (and the way Hideo Kojima explains them) are so absurd that we’re devoting a second bingo post to them. Stay tuned, as the next post, including wincenwork’s elaboration on the ridiculousness, comes later today!

A group of college boys find their world taking a dramatic turn when a pretty girl joins them in their tabletop role-playing game (RPG) session.

I can’t work out if this is supposed to parody or is just completely lacks self awareness… and I don’t want to financially support it by buying a copy.

It’s 2015! The Guild has been out for seven years now and World Famous Nerd Princess Felicia Day (thisfeliciaday) has shamelessly been playing DnD for longer.  Confessions of a Part Time Sorceress came out around the same time.  There are long lists of women who write RPG materials.  Women have been part of these games since forever!

How is “Oh my God! Does a girl really want to play a role playing games with us nerd guys!?” still a thing!? How did nobody in the publication process spot the obvious problems with these covers!?

Ugh. This thing reeks of Big Bang Theory-style understanding of how male geeks look, behave and interact with women.

The only non-shitty “a girl joins a bunch of nerd boys in a roleplaying game” scenario that I recall is that Dexter’s Laboratory episode in which DeeDee, with no prior experience, proves to be a much more awesome Game Master than her brother.

How could she not be, though? She invented dungeon-forest!

And that was back in 1997. What went wrong since then?

Minecraft Ad

I am actually really disappointed here – this has nothing to do with #Minecraft, and I really thought this game was better than that!

This appears to be armour based on the drawing of the top, then lingerie based on the apparent cloth for the bottom half.  And that underboob is flagrantly overdone.  I think they forgot the boob is actually attached to the chest on the bottom, not just the top.  Or there is a REALLY tight band going underneath the boobs that is folding them over, very painfully I’d imaging.  Even if that’s the case, I think physics would suggest that they would still fall out, at least as far as seeing the nipples.  Also fun if you turn the picture sideways – the absurdity is even more obvious.

To be fair I suspect this wasn’t an ad put together by Minecraft but by someone who got an affiliate account at a Minecraft Hosting company and gets a commission for every customer who rents a server through them.  Particularly since it was on Project Wonderful (which is for small creators to advertise, not massive corporations).

So naturally they assumed that people who want to play Minecraft dont’ know what Minecraft looks like, and really love underboob.

I don’t think that costume, that a female character deliberately wears into battle and dangerous situations, provides enough protection to qualify as armor…

You know who you are

Bringing this back to remind anyone that outfit doesn’t have to be explicitly an armor or armor-like to qualify for this blog.

As long as a female character deliberately wears it for battle, it counts.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the spiritual successor to Castlevania being put together by Koji Igarashi, the producer of many of the classic Castevania titles.  It casts Miriam (top) as the Simon Belmont stand-in.

I mean it’s awesome that they’ve got a female protagonist but why is she going adventuring against monsters in a gothic horror land dressed like a punk goth lolita on her way to a Babymetal concert?

So close, yet so far.
