For a while, I’ve been trying to find tutorials on drawing and designing armor, but I can never find any. Do you know any good armor designing/drawing tutorials I can use?
I’ve looked through my drawing resources tag, and I haven’t found much in the way of armor tutorials (there’s a few that talk about what breasts look like in armor, you might want to check those out). There was one submission that linked to a blog post by the submitter that talked about designing armor, but the post has since been removed. :
So, I’m asking here. Does anybody know any good tutorials/resources for drawing and designing armor? Since, it’s this blog, if there is anything specifically for women’s armor, that would be pretty good for future reference too. 🙂
Of course, I run a whole blog about female armor!
Let me recommend my armor design and positive examples tags.
Also check out list of related sites, especially armor references on Art-And-Sterf, Repair Her Armor, ria-RHA and Women Fighters in Reasonable Armor.

I originally decided against submitting this since it seemed like self promotion, but the recent discussion about the guild wars assassin and her slightly-more-but-not-quite-functional outfit prompted me to go ahead.
This is a writeup I made on practical character design dealing specifically with female assassins, and why most (including Nika’s redesign) in my opinion fail. I explain my opinions on common assassination tactics, how to make the character still attractive and what my ideal assassin would look like. I linked it instead of reproducing the whole thing since it’s REALLY long, but below is my for-fun stab at common female assassin design.
Never be afraid of sending me self promotion! The worst that happens is I don’t post it. xD
I’m sorry it took me so long to get to you. I ignored my message queue for a bit because of stress issues.
I really like your blog post. I think you make some great points and you really looked into what an assassin should and shouldn’t be carrying. Obviously, exaggeration is part of fiction, so if people want sexy assassins carrying tons of weapons, that’s great, but one of the things I hear a lot in defending that is how “realistic” it is and you really blow a hole through that.
I like your suggestions on what you could do instead too. 🙂 I think this is a great resource for anybody thinking of making a female assassin and want to break a few tropes. 🙂
A great in-depth article on assassin costume design that I overlooked when preparing initial reblog queue.
The author takes into consideration how specific assassins are as a character class and condemns not only obviously stupid choices like boob windows, but also many tropes concerning “proper” killer-for-hire outfits. A refreshingly pragmatic look on costume design.
edit: changed the link, so it works now!
