Break the Bingo – A CONTEST!

As a sendoff for the site’s and Female Armor Bingo’s and site’s anniversary, we prepared a little something for you guys: a Female Armor Bingo art contest!

We’ve been noted numerous times by our readers how tempting it is to design an “armor” so absurd that it crosses out ALL the Female Armor Bingo squares. So far no commercial work we tested the game on succeeded at that (though some came dangerously close), so how about we actually DO take this challenge?

The challenge: Design a skimpy female armor that covers every single possible point of the Female Armor Bingo.
The contestant MUST be the author of submitted art. Any type of art may be submitted, as long as its contents are clearly readable and presented as a standard web friendly file (jpeg, png, etc).
Already existing art is fine, as long as the contestant formally submits it, as per rules.

The contestants: To take part in the contest a person needs to have either tumblr account or deviantArt account, as we need legitimate way to contact the winners and track back their artwork. The contestant must either follow BABD on tumblr or BikiniArmorBeDamned group on deviantArt.
Anonymous submissions to tumblr are automatically disqualified!

The deadlines: All submissions have to enter via Bikini Armor Battle Damage’s submit box as image posts (with a “Contest entry” note in description) or to BikiniArmorBeDamned dA group’s Female Armor Bingo CONTEST folder before 31 March 2015.
The winners will be announced on bikiniarmorbattledamage 5 April 2015 (the Easter Sunday).

The prizes: 3 winners will be chosen and 3 prizes are offered. 1st place winner gets to choose the prize first, second one chooses after them, third one gets whatever prize is left. The available prizes are:

If anyone’s interested in contributing more prizes, please contact us!

Keep in mind some bingo squares are directly or indirectly contradictory (a boobplate that covers only nipples?). We’re counting on your creativity with overcoming that.
Bonus points if you manage to score both the bingo 1.0-exclusive Cameltoe and 1.1-exclusive “How does it attach?!” points!

Guess who’s back

There is a prophecy we shared upon this blog, and it seems the guys at Soul Calibur are doing everything in their power to make it come true.

Think I’m joking!? This brilliant design which is a limited time collectible on Lost Swords was designed by a Hentai artist.  Now I should clarify, I don’t mean an artist who happens to have done drawn some porn at various times to pay the bills – I mean it’s his preferred genre and the one that he’s built his fanbase on.

I guess they figured his expertise would add polished professionalism to their already porntastic costume catalog for a game that already incorporates destroyable armor.

Thank you to pinchtheprincess for directing us to this one.

Presenting: Female Armor Bingo VER. 1.1!

Since the Female Armor Bingo premiered on March the 1st 2014, it actually got to be tested on dozens upon dozens of “armors”, which taught me where improvements might be needed. Hence today, on its first anniversary, I present the REVISED Female Armor Bingo!

Some squares have been reworded to better describe more female warrior outfits, while “Cameltoe”, which thankfully turned out to be less popular than expected, got replaced with “How does it attach?!” square. Some lettering also got resized a bit for reading convenience.

No square placement is different (as in, I didn’t rig the game so more bingos can be won on average), because, as we noted before, the scores are not a conclusive measuring device for costume design quality.
The game is not about the score (which is subjective, anyway), but about pointing out recurring sexist character design tropes and encouraging critique of them.
Also, leaving the squares as they are means there will be less confusion between the cards crossed in the past and the newer ones. Hence it’s version 1.1, not 2.0.

Version 1.0 is still available here in deviantArt scraps

Female Armor Bingo – A Year in Review

It’s been an exciting year for the Female Armor Bingo, over a hundred cards filled in and displayed on BABD.  We’ve learned a lot, and we hope the industry has too.

We hope creators, publishers and fandoms have learned (but I kind have my doubts that they have across their respective industries at least):

We learned:

[x] [x] [x] [x]

  • No matter how bad the outfit is and how much the designers attempted to sex it up, not a single one scores 100% of the bingo squares.

Certainly not for the lack of trying, though…

[x] [x] [x] [x]

It’s been an amazing first year and we’re looking for to the next year and the adventures (and tears) that will come as we continue to analyze just how terrible female armor designs in mainstream media really are!
