Look, I’m not saying that this marketing strategy wouldn’t be effective at getting the attention of twelve year olds… but is this really the best way to market products supposedly suitable for pre- teens?

In a video that covers a few game mechanics, over-commercialization, verbal abuse in gameplay and the general state of games… what is the hot topic in the comments?

Seems familiar. Anyone ever notice how the whole “If you don’t like it just shut up and make your own!” thing only ever applies to people who want progress… like why aren’t the people who want terrible stuff obligated to just shut up and make their own?

Let’s take a closer look at Sylvanas Windrunner, Queen of the Forsaken, as revealed in official Heroes of the Storm art. First though, to address one issue:
mitulita replied to your photo: “For the people who rushed to tell us we should never doubt Blizzard’s…”:
The Sylvanas design is not new, though. It has been exactly like this in World of Warcraft for years. They are just repeating an old mistake there…
Which still totally proves our point that Blizzard is NOT trying to improve. They had a perfect opportunity to update the design and did basically nothing.
While her official model for some reason wears a thong over nice pants, lots of popular Sylvanas fanart depicts her as pantless and Blizzard seem to be pretty okay with that.

Tangentially related to BABD’s subject matter, but very important point for the gender in gaming discussion.
Just as the association of colors pink and blue with femininity and masculinity, the link between certain game mechanics and gender is a result of completely arbitrary choices made fairly recently, while the mechanics were being developed.
Therefore, marketing different types of games to “opposing” gender demographics does NOT prove that men and women are inherently attracted to different facets of aesthetic or forms entertainment.

I think this is also worth remembering not just in terms of game mechanics but those assigned to female characters. Limiting female characters to support roles, femme fatales or rewards means that the designs of female characters limited to just those that serve these purposes.

Blizzard “progress”
Liliana submitted:
So, remember when a Blizzard VP was acknowledging how dumb bikini armours were and promised progress in the future? Fantastic. Now a new patch for Diablo III is coming out soon and they’re going to include new sets of armours.
Diablo is known for its ridiculous outfits, but hey Blizzard is starting to get it, and so the new wizard outfit will no doubt be…

Sigh.
Nevermind.
Oh Blizzard… I want to be disappointed in you but it’s so hard when you continually recognize the issues with your products and manage to make your attempts to improve into even bigger jokes.
