Etrian Odyssey
This is gonna come from a place of love, but still drives me crazy, but Etrian Odyssey has a real issue with being completely erratic on whether it wants to be practical or not.
On one hand you have characters like Guildmaster Marion

or classes like the Protector

And then there’s classes that just kinda… don’t

Granted, we get some manservice too

The part I find most amazing is that based off it’s promotional material, I would never have expected any manservice or whip wielding… well I’m not sure I want to know what she is, in the game. I mean look at the North America cover:

I can only imagine this leads to many awkward conversations with parents walking in when the wrong thing is on the screen.

@strawberryshakeus directed us to this thread which combined the usual claims that men can’t be empowered with a bizarre implied narrative that Star Sapphires (Pink Lanterns in all but name) shouldn’t have male members because they’re powered by Love (as opposed to Willpower for Green Lanterns or Rage for Red Lanterns).
Failing that, if male Star Sapphires must be allowed in the game, they shouldn’t dress provocatively as female Star Sapphires tend to.
Can’t wait for the next troll critic to drop in and tell us that double standards aren’t really a thing.
Come on, who wouldn’t want to look up and see that bold man defending their city!?

Sadly, DC seems to share the double standard sentiment…

Have we mentioned that we’re really enjoying this trend of swapping out models to highlight disparity in gender representation? Because we are!
We’d also like to thank @doctorsanity for sharing this wonderfully empowering gif with us after brave souls went to combat creator decisionscensorship and discovered the games’ true potential!

Now that’s empowerment!
