Can we just take a second to talk about how great (most) of the armor in skyrim is? It kinda sucks that most of the armor mods in the steam workshop for female characters are really sexualized, though.

Sorry I didn’t answer earlier! Got really busy lately and tended to glance over BABD inbox without writing back :(.

Truth is, I never played Skyrim, so I really can’t comment on outfits in the game, be it for female or male characters.
But definitely agreed on mods, as this post exemplifies.

Readers, any opinions on female armors in Skyrim?

Regarding my pic for the ‘spandex chainmail’ post, I got it from a Google image search, and I think that came from a Skyrim modding site. The scary thing is, that wasn’t the worst. There were several full torso shots showing that they had chainmail ‘camel toe’ too. And I thought the idea of a chainmail wedgie from a battle bikini was bad…

(the ask is referring to this post, of course)

That’s just… upsetting.

I don’t know if I wanna go googling for female armor ever again.

Regarding the Skyrim mods I’ve had an ask about those waiting for a while in my inbox, gonna publish it right after this post.

One thing that’s always bugged me just as much, if not more, as battle bikini’s and boobplates is what I sometimes refer to a ‘spandex chainmaile’.

Just adding: Wearing chainmail over your naked body would be the most fucking uncomfortable thing ever. Aside from metal being cold, having it brush against your skin constantly would really hurt after a while.

This! Though “having it brush against your skin constantly would really hurt after a while” is misunderstanding of the century, so let’s make it clear:

WEARING CHAINMAIL DIRECTLY ON YOUR BODY WOULD PEEL YOUR SKIN OFF.

Armor by Feralkyn

It’s surprisingly hard to find an image that shows how a fully-protective armor on male transforms into a bikini/lingerie/S&M gear on a woman in MMORPG.

Not just warriors; I’ve seen huge difference in gear for male versus female mages as well 🙂

That is true, yes.

Though our blog focuses mostly on warriors and related classes, because there’s no excuse for jumping into a fight in a bikini.
It’s marginally more understandable when you don’t take part in a close-range combat and have magic to protect you.

Obviously, no explanation is valid when absurd clothing is based on character’s gender instead of class.

Why do a lot of people forget that boobs aren’t here for you. They are supposed to produce breast milk, not be sex objects.

It’s the question I ask myself all the time.

Of course being aroused by breasts is natural and by no means bad in itself, let’s make it clear. But our culture skewed the perception of breasts by overemphasizing their arbitrary* sexual value (*boobs are not necessary for sex to happen, after all). They’re treated like some kind of secondary genitals, while tabooing the actual function they’re designed for (feeding babies).
That’s the sad reason why on one hand a bare female breast is considered “indecent” to the point of shaming women from nursing in public places, while on the other hand they’re used as a shortcut for what straight male audience would (allegedly) instantly find appealing.

And as (horny) hetero men are somehow the default audience for most of entertainment media, boobs need to be bared, or at least emphasized beyond any logic (and beyond how science works) on every possible occasion, even when it makes little to no sense in context.
Frustration with above school of thought is one of the major reasons that this blog exists. You know there’s something wrong when it’s more important to show that a warrior character happens to have boobs than to apply some practical battle wear for them.
