A Positive Example

Modern Swordswoman

Sometimes a good example of a lady in armor helps to cleanse the palate. Here’s a young lady who recently won a longsword competition at an international jousting tournament. Notice how she wears loose pants for flexibility instead of a loincloth? And that she looks freaking awesome?

Full article with interview here.

Awesome swordslady is awesome! You can find her on tumblr, too.

edit: Apparently Escher Girls published the same thing at the same time I queued the post, you can check Ami’s version here.

I was impressed by the Comic-Con poster for Edge of Tomorrow. It features a woman who is clearly female, but not sexually posed and fully, practically clad in sci-fi armor. I didn’t have much interest in the film before, but if it holds up to this kind of non-sexist standard, I think I’m going to have to check it out.

Yay for reasonable female sci-fi armor! 🙂

Could be a bit less boobplate-y, but pretty cool design nonetheless.

pfffft. there’s plenty of room under there for proper padding. look how much it slopes out right at the shoulder level

Yeah, it’s the rare instance of female armor being properly layered beneath the top surface of metal.
But what I meant is that it still has the boob bumps, which create a weak point right where the sternum is. I doubt that the golden ornamentation in that place actually helps the case.

Boobplate is not only superfluous design-wise (because for most armored women breast-flattening with sports bracorset or sarashi is obligatory part of padding anyway), it can also kill the wearer.
