Amelia in Fire Emblem Heroes
FEAnon submitted (and Ozzie bingo’d):
So the character Amelia from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was added to the inter franchise crossover, Fire Emblem Heroes in her General form, General being a heavily armored character class in Fire Emblem.

In Sacred Stones, Amelia looks the part if she becomes an armored class, but something seems off from her Heroes depiction.

Amelia seems to have forgotten not only leggings fro her armor, but pants. Maybe I’m missing something, but why wear heavy armor if your entire lower body is exposed? That pose and the camera focus is also real interesting of the artist.

Male Member of the same class in the same game.
Lets try for a Bingo!
Unimpressive bingo score, but that just shows how close Amelia was to a decent female armor design before someone decided that a girl knight should go pantless, despite being heavily armored from waist up.
Also wow, that second big image… Gratuitous upskirt shot while she suffers costume damage? Are we sure this is Fire Emblem, not Kanpani Girls?
How sad it is that the only images of this character without randomly uncovered legs are low-res sprites from an older game… Gods forbid pants on a female warrior were more than a couple pixels high.

So, Kolin and Menat are two new characters introduced into Street Fighter V via intro videos… Kolin’s intro happens to feature her fighting fetishware model Juri.
For some reason, these characters look a little familiar, like maybe I’ve seen them before, in another game that recycles cliche designs… that or they’re just so creative my brain can’t handle the strain.
In terms of male characters, well Abigail is the closest they’ve gotten to true empowerment… kind of:

I just… don’t get the same feeling that his his costume was designed with sensual posing as it’s first and second priority…

So… We’re getting a suspiciously Neith–like vaguely Egyptian contortionist and a “sexy Russian” Halloween costume as the new lady fighters? Creativity is off the charts!
Hell, Street Fighter is also ripping itself off, considering how similar Kolin’s “Battle Costume” is to Cammy’s.
And since her “Nostalgia Costume” is a throwback to when Kolin wasn’t playable, it’s a proof that you truly need to lose any remnant of credibility in your clothes to become playable female character.

Generally we try to avoid negatively highlighting indie games for a variety of factors.
- They’re more likely to be conforming to market expectations set by big companies than to influence the trend of the market in general
- They’re often being made as a singular creative vision rather than for-profit focus of making a marketable product
- Since they’re not working for profit and raising capital, indies often can’t afford to make their own assets and just have to use whatever’s available
- They’re often made by people still working out how they want to make games, and so commit all kinds of beginner mistakes
With the exception of a few games that get wide spread attention due to hilarious juxtaposition between what they promise and what look to they deliver (eg Haydee and Axe Princess) we tend to leave them alone.
So why am I bingo’ing The King’s Heroes? Because, well while Aldorlea Games claims indie status, it’s a bit confusing if you look at their Steam listing sorted by date (showing the oldest here)

They’re less of an Indie studio and more of a shovelware factory, and while this game does pretend (kind of) to have some male empowerment it also makes the ratio pretty obvious:

R.I.P. Bingo.
Ah, Kanpani Girls, how we missed you. It’s been over a year since we last saw you, and you certainly have gotten…. sigh. Even though her heels aren’t that tall, it pisses me off that they added heels to historically flat footwear. I’m sure they help with agility or something. I also filled in “random patches of skin uncovered” because there was actually effort put in into showing some stomach. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

Did we mention this game has “defeated” sprites for its eyecandy mercenaries?

But this is a deep strategy game, you guys. Very Serious Business. Especially with how the game actually looks:

Man, that brown and red outfit sure reminds me of something…

Cheetah’s appearance in Injustice 2. Why even put clothing on an animal hybrid? She’s covered in fur, what are the clothes for? Because they’re not for any purposes of breast support or protection from attacks… The “outfit” ends up calling more attention to various body parts by putting clothes on them, much in the same vein as Jack in Mass Effect 2. That loincloth especially calls a lot of attention to itself.
Also, does she apply lipstick as part of her grooming routine? What’s going on with her mouth?

Though I’ll give her that she looks rightfully upset.

Cheetah’s design changed a lot over time, though whether her spots were a costume or her own fur, she rarely wore clothes over them [image source]:

When she did, though, it was some basic minimalistic garb, not overdesigned “savage” costume with way too many “exotic” accessories over boobs and butt.

Swords of Divinity is a game by an asset flipper (actually the one featured in the video) and while they have unspectacular in pretty much everything else, they really managed to make a spectacularly bad design here.
And yes, that is an Archer with what looks like a terribly designed crossbow.

I just heard of a new upcoming video game called Battle Chasers: Nightwar which was based on a comic book of the same name. It seemed to be the type of game I would enjoy but first I needed to see if the designs of the characters were good (Bad designs can easily ruin the whole experience for me) so I checked on Gully…

“Wow! That is actually a pretty damn good design!” I said to myself.
Then I checked on Red Monika…

I reacted like anyone who actually has a good amount of brain cells.
How is that you could make one good female character design and then make a terrible female character design in the same fucking series?! HOW DID YOU SCREW THAT UP?!
So based on the promotional materials on their website, Red Monika (gee, her name reminds me of a character to whom she has a striking similarity) is a flirtatious acrobatic pirate/scoundrel type, which really makes me wonder what magical glue she uses to prevent her breasts from falling out. Her boobs also jiggle when she moves, cause that’s totally important when your view of the battlefield looks like this:

I, too, have a sexy swashbuckler character with large breasts, and they wear a sports-bra equivalent even when they decide to flirt and show some cleavage. And they don’t even do back flips in combat.
The lack of creativity here is painful in the most boring way.
But this game is based on an existing property; maybe it’s the fault of the comics that made Monika look this way.

… maybe not.

90s comics was once of those amazing periods in history that’s hard to explain to people unless they were there – I kind of hope that one day Martin Scorsese will make a movie about it.
However Battle Chasers did have a ton of interesting material and a lot of promise – by that I mean the cast who were not generic fantasy hero and generic evil sexy lady.

So, let’s take a look at what they chose for their feature video and hope that the game creators realize that and don’t think that a classically 90s comic figure and outfit is what made this comic so interesting…
Oh dear.

Thanks joabobs for for the tip about Legacy of Discord. I was having fun with this bingo (picked out of several different options that were equally generic and lingerie-y) but then I found this image and I died a little more inside:

I mean, besides the hilariously obvious double standard, that… whatever it is she’s wearing is so uninspired, and the messy rendering makes me think they spent an entire 25 minutes on it because Creepy Marketing Guy wanted a Hot Chick™ on the advertisement. Her giant hat is the coolest thing about her design, but even that isn’t done well. Compare her to the guy on the right, who has what looks like a literal bear trap on his armor. I want one of those! (Also the shape language on him is just a lot clearer.)
I got distracted from the original point of this post, but do I really need to say more about Ms. Furious Wings up there besides Kerrigan Lingerie Victoria’s Secret Angel?

probably-unreliable submitted:
Djeeta by Minaba Hideo, she’s one of the two main characters from a Japanese mobile/browser game called Granblue Fantasy.
The last pic is her male counterpart to for some comparison between the two characters.
TFW you’re on a beach vacation and the boss calls you into work >_>

This is by far the least imaginative gladiatrix/ancient female warrior costume we’ve had on BABD. Literal modern bikini/underwear set with normal armor on arms and legs!
Even her cuisses are shorter to enhance femoral artery stabbing show more luscious thigh flesh.
One thing that’s particularly funny when comparing the two is that the guy has no upper arm protection, while lady gets big pauldrons and besagews attached to nothing! Yup, their function as auxiliary armor is so totally not compromised by the lack of breastplate.
