Mighty Magiswords

So Cartoon Network has a new series called “Mighty Magiswords” about a pair of adventurers who do adventurey stuff.  This is an image of one of the two leads,Vambre, as she evolved through the years before the show got picked up.

image

Far left is her original incarnation around 1996.

Second from left is her look to about 2006.

Then in 2007, someone stole her pants (probably creepy marketing guy) and they haven’t been seen since.

…sigh…

[source]

So over the years of design refinement not only did her skin become noticeably lighter, she also acquired a stereotypical leotard that so rarely gets worn by male characters, huh?

The show even makes “you have no pants” jokes, to which Vambre responds “Stop judging my bare legs decision and accept me for who I am!”With no real satirical twist on it or anything – they just reproduce the cliche and address it’s there, as it that was inherently comedic.

This is a cartoon for kids, why am I feeling like the costume design and story boarding was done by Frank Miller or maybe Frank Cho?  WTF DC Warner Brothers!? (Video here) Also…

I can actually imagine Creepy Marketing Guy just red-lining the boobs onto this costume and the artist just copying their exact shape and location out of contempt.  That’s the only explanation I’m going to accept for this particular boobplate.

Suddenly it’s very clear why the art direction and DC Comics didn’t immediately spot the obvious problems with the Wonder Woman cover having convoluted design in order to facilitate random panty flash.

So, Mai Shiranui is the latest crossover character in the latest Dead or Alive game, continuing their trend of amazing double standards in character design.

I think the fact that the trailer’s only priorities are to reassure us Mia doesn’t wear anything close to conventional panties and jiggle physics (did I mention that Team Ninja also try to maximize upskirt physics?)

They also released a trailer for new bunch of costumes and a stage crossing over with Attack on Titan – so naturally they need to assure their intended audience that the otherwise sensible costumes will be destroyable.  So that’s going to be thing that we’re going to have in this reality.

Oh, and for those who worrying we’re demanding compromises on an artist’s important vision and forcing censorship

Tomonobu Itagaki doesn’t like this either and thinks it’s ruining the series that he started:

“Thank you everyone. I’m so glad to hear your voices. Please support our DOA together. I have to say. DOA can’t survive with money earned by continuously selling too much sexual DLCs. DOA can live with respects from all of the DOA fans. So, please make them aware of what they have to do for the future of DOA.”

@xagrok asked:

I know you already wrote a bit about Velvet Crowe’s design from Berseria, but may I ask for your opinion on Magilou’s? I think you’ll find her design… charming, especially her book skirt.

Well… the hat works.

Honestly though with the book skirt I’m not sure what’s more upsetting – the idea of the bruises and chaffing you’d get from leatherbound books slapping and rubbing on your legs… or that someone would do that books!

Also it looks like the buckle on top edge of that front book is resting… right on her mound.  So yeah, for her sake I hope nothing bumps it.
