You guys know how there’s so many female characters portrayed in skimpy clothes despite being in a cold, snowy climate? Well they need to take a look at Dr. Astrid Greenwood from The Long Dark.

I’ve been a big fan of The Long Dark since it first came out (even if it’s still in early access), because it’s one of the more realistic survival games I’ve seen. One of the most disappointing things about it however was that being a female character was only offered in Sandbox Mode, and Story Mode (which hadn’t been released yet) was only listed as having a male character.

But Hinterland Studios updated us about Story Mode and there was the awesome surprise of Astrid being added! Might I add that she looks perfectly equipped with her multiple layers and even looks warmer than her male counterpart Will Mackenzie. Love the mismatched boots too, which makes perfect sense with the fact that you scavenge most of your gear in the game.

If that wasn’t enough, Astrid’s voice actor is the amazing Jennifer Hale and she’s featured prominently in the Story Mode Reveal Trailer. (cw: graphic violent/gore)

Before I was kind of meh about playing Story Mode but now I’m super excited!

I may have initially gotten super excited about this game simply for the ability to pretend to be FemShep on survival training, but I’m super excited over this reveal that I’ll be able to play as Astrid in Story Mode.

The game is still in Early Release and Story Mode isn’t available yet, but I’m certainly looking forward to it unlocking and want to see how the finished product looks.
