Marvel is proud to display the new look for this re-introduced character, Angela. This is what they did with their opportunity to re-invent a previously ridiculous costume. Way to uphold the status quo, Marvel.
Agreed. The only real improvement is that it’s not so cluttered as in the 90’s:
Even Neil Gaiman himself, who reprises his role as the writer for Angela, comments on her skimpiness:
It’s also true that, since the first time Todd drew her back in ‘92, I’ve thought, “I wonder if she owns a cardigan…? She must be so chilly.”
He also admits he had no saying about neither her original design, nor the new one.
I think Joe wanted to make her recognizable to all the people who remembered the character from the original issues, while she saves up for a cardigan. So I’m sure that we’ll be seeing more Angela costumes as she settles into the Marvel Universe.
The original character design was by Todd McFarlane in 1992, and I didn’t really have any input then. Or at least, I described someone to him, but she was dressed more warmly.
You know what? I’m making a new a new tag for questionable redesigns: #improvement?
Because there needs to be a question mark there.
