This week tidying-up:

To anyone who says BABD is shaming women who like to dress their female game characters in skimpy gear: we challenge you to find a single post where we say that. Go, look it up! We’ll wait.

When submitting, please remember that this blog’s primary concern is warrior costume design. Art where contorted anatomy, not the costume, is the problem is more appropriate as a submission to @eschergirls.

I’ve been meaning to bingo this piece of concept art from World of Warcraft, since it still baffles me that there are serious people with decision making power who felt this was appropriate outside of a sexy pinup book.

That and I find it kind of amazing that in Azeroth women’s boots either come with stiletto heels or no heel whatsoever (just a gap in the boot).

Of course, people keep assuring us that Blizzard has improved a lot and surely if we look at their latest expansion we wouldn’t see anything…

A few people were concerned that we shouldn’t be harsh on Nova as she (or at least her boobplate) appeared in a recent Blizzard ad. However given that Heroes of the Storm got it’s own concept art and many people did write in to tell us how awesome Johanna’s (bottom right) design is… it just begs one question.

Does Blizzard actually have an official policy of “One or two good examples so we can get good press and a feminist cookie – then go back to sexy designs.” and if so is it posted to the walls in their art department? Also do the have one that says “Remember: Female midriffs are impervious to damage!” ?

Because I Johanna’s outfit certainly shows a lot of promise but… why is the least armored part of every character the squishy bits where they keep the vital organs?
