I’ve been getting this question a lot so I figured I’ll post this on RHA. (:
First of all, thank you! Second, I want you to know I don’t mind big chested women. At all. People have them, we all are different. Some are small or big, saggy or perky, you name it. I personally don’t feel like they are unwanted or non-existent; I don’t shame any body. Ever. While it’s true that most athletic or thin women have small chests due to the little fat that is collected there, that doesn’t mean there are exceptions. (Sadly, most women are drawn/modeled as thin and maybe athletic. I’d love some more body variation.)
However, here are a few reasons I personally think they are sometimes flattened:
- Logically thinking, if you’re athletic, working out and etc, usually you’ll wear a sports bra – and those tends to flatten chests a bit to make it easier for the wearer. This video explains that quite good!
- Sometimes the breasts doesn’t look logical with the clothing she’s wearing. Like, for example, this Healer from Scarlet blade here wears a chestplate; and when I tried to create it on her “normal" breasts, it looked odd. So I figured she was wearing a sports bra beneath! Even the Punisher got her butt flattened for the same reason. Clothes sometimes flatten/shape squishy parts of the body.
- Sometimes the breasts in general are just an anatomical failure.For example, when they are supposed to be “big" they instead look like skin-colored balloons. Like this lady.
- Body variation. Majority of these girls are thin women with a perfect butt (or the illusion of a butt if they suffer from the centaur syndrome) and big boobs. Since (not my words) “small chested women are not sexy” they are rarely ever drawn, unless they’re supposed to be 9 year olds. So I guess little body variation is still better than none.
That’s what I can think of for now, and I certainly hope it’s not offensive. And to be honest, I think we’re balancing it out well by still keeping big chests on many as well. 🙂 like the Defender, these ladies, Soul Saga, Ivy, these two, even this armored lady, etc!
Edit: jiyuriahi commented: “Also to the other person about the big breasts comment, having breasts out in combat can really get in the way. Because the shape of the armor matters a lot in protection. And breasts moving around so much would be tiring (and extremely painful against metal/leather/what have you if it was constantly rubbing). So wrapping and pressing the breasts down wouldn’t only be comfortable it’d be functional. And thank you for the small chest comment. Neither should be shamed, but variety is inclusive.“
